Live attenuated virus vaccine protects against SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.351 (Beta)

This research confirms that the leading vaccine candidate found in the earlier study, named sCPD9, is also safe for Roborovski dwarf hamsters. These hamsters are prone to develop severe COVID-19-like symptoms. When the sCPD9 live-attenuated vaccine was administered through the nose, it triggered strong protective responses from the immune system. This prevented illness not only from the original SARS-CoV-2 virus but also from various SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern.
